The Five Cheesecakes Thao Dien Can't Stop Ordering

We looked at three years of orders and 477 Google reviews to find out which flavors actually win. Some of the results surprised even us.

Every bakery says their bestseller is the best. We figured we'd let the numbers do the talking instead. After digging through three years of order data and all 477 of our Google reviews (4.7 stars, thanks for that), here's what Thao Dien is actually eating.

1. Apple Crumble — 160,000₫

Not even close. The Apple Crumble outsells everything else by a wide margin, and it has since about two months after we opened. Twenty-three separate Google reviews use some version of "best cheesecake in Saigon" when talking about this one specifically.

What makes it work: shredded Fuji apple layered over the filling, topped with a cinnamon streusel that shatters when you press your fork through it. It's lighter than the classic — the apple cuts through the richness in a way that makes you want another bite instead of sitting back feeling overfull. In Saigon's heat, that lightness matters more than you'd think.

2. Classic New York — 150,000₫

The purist's choice, and our most reordered flavor for delivery. No fruit, no crumble, no distractions. Just cream cheese, cream, eggs, sugar, and a touch of vanilla. Dense, tangy, uncompromising.

We've had customers who lived in New York tell us it holds its own against the cheesecakes they grew up eating. That's the compliment we never get tired of hearing. If you've never tried anything from our shop, start here — it tells you everything about what we do.

3. Passion Fruit — 160,000₫

This is the one that converts people who say they don't like cheesecake. The passion fruit cuts through the richness with a tartness that feels almost refreshing — perfect for Saigon, where heavy desserts can feel like a commitment.

We use real fruit pulp, seeds and all, not the bright orange syrup that shows up in most Vietnamese desserts. You can actually taste the fruit. On a 35-degree afternoon, a cold slice of this with a black coffee is genuinely one of the best things in the neighborhood.

4. Matcha — 165,000₫

Our most popular flavor with the Korean and Japanese expat community, and it's been climbing the ranks with Vietnamese customers too. We use ceremonial-grade matcha from Uji, Japan — the real stuff, not the cooking-grade powder that tastes like lawn clippings.

The flavor is vegetal, slightly bitter, with an almost savory quality that plays beautifully against the sweet, creamy base. It's subtle in a way that cheaper matcha desserts never manage. The color is a deep, honest green, not neon.

5. Burnt Basque — 155,000₫

The Instagram darling. That dramatic caramelized top photographs beautifully, and we won't pretend that hasn't helped sales. But the reason it stays in the top five is the texture: custardy and almost molten in the center, with a bittersweet char on top that balances the sweetness.

It's the most divisive cake on our menu — people either love it or find it underbaked. (It's not. It's supposed to be that way.) If you like crème brûlée, you'll understand this cheesecake immediately.

Where to Find Them

All five are available daily at our shop on 23b Lê Văn Miến, Thao Dien — for dine-in, takeaway, or delivery through our website and GrabFood. Slices run from 150,000₫ to 165,000₫. We also do whole cakes if you're planning something.
